Words of Wisdom

I'm sharing some short quotes and tips that either helped me a lot, or would if I or the persons around me had followed them! Hope some of them can help someone else too.

  1. - Throw your trash in the bin, not on your mother (mother being my country, India, in my case).
  2. - If you don't know a solution to a problem that's bothering you, ask around and heed someone who does. But don't complain pointlessly.
  3. - Spend some time in the company of trees - it'll boost your thinking. But don't smoke while you're at it or you'll mess it up.
  4. - Do unto others as you want done unto yourself.
  5. - To Err is Human. To learn from one's errors is Humanity. To learn from others' errors is Civilization. So keep your ears and eyes open.
  6. - Solving a problem before finding whom to blame is the smarter thing to do.
  7. - Try not to repeat today what you said yesterday, unless for good reason.
  8. - The devil lies in the details.
  9. - Satyameva Jayate - "truth alone shall triumph" - eventually if not immediately!
  10. - Check the facts thoroughly before jumping to conclusions. When in doubt, stay there.
  11. - Learn to discern a fact-based argument from a rhetoric-laden one. Walk away from the latter.
  12. - If you want the news, read it instead of watching it. So you get the facts minus the fiction and are allowed the chance to think for yourself.
  13. - Appearances can be deceptive.
  14. - When the prize is worthy, Step out of your comfort zone.
  15. - If you judge a person, you're probably wrong!
  16. - There are no filmy evil villains. There are bad circumstances and good people who are misguided, or are afraid to act at the right time.
  17. - Play life as a game - mission, challenges, constraints, rewards and retries. But stop looking for the cheat codes if you want to enjoy it - you may consult the walk-throughs instead!
  18. - Think long term and big picture.
  19. - In any situation good or bad, remember that "This too shall pass".
  20. - A true friend is usually not the one who always agrees with you or is always acting nice around you.
  21. - If you need loyalty, get a dog. Otherwise, look for intelligence, independence and integrity in the people you position around yourself.
  22. - If you keep following the trend, you will never stand out.
  23. - It is better to be confused than to be self-righteously misguided.
  24. - The best things in life will not make you suffer later.
  25. - Innocent until proven guilty, and not the other way around!
  26. - Before doing something, imagine what would happen if everybody did the same. If the outcome is good, proceed!
  27. - The world around you has much more real music and better surround sound than any MP3 player you can possibly carry. So when outside, drop the earpieces and tune in to the world!
  28. - Learn the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic pleasure. The former withers away, the latter stays.
  29. - A universal quote / proverb is Universal and it applies to your situation without exceptions.
  30. - The greatest enemy is Fear itself, and the greatest Evil is committed by those who live in fear.
  31. - The true King of any household is not the oldest parent but the youngest child.
  32. - Every human being is created equal. There is no one inferior nor superior to you.
  33. - It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society - J.Krishnamurti
  34. - Thinking only for oneself is, in the long run, self-defeating.
  35. - Knowledge of something wrong taking place comes with the responsibility of acting to prevent it.
  36. - No matter how much you hate or feel wronged by someone, never close off the chance for communication.
  37. - A good sense of humor carries with it the key to problem solving and progression. Lose one and you will surely lose the other.
  38. - Things told in jest should be taken thus or not at all.
  39. - You have better things to do than to go around making mountains out of molehills.
  40. - From Physics class, we know that to make a projectile reach its destination, one must always aim higher to counteract the force of gravity. Same theory applies in life as well.
  41. - The truly wise one knows when and where to make an exception to every rule.
  42. - Repeating the same patterns that got you into trouble will not take you out of it.
  43. - You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
  44. - They didn't move out of the Stone Age just because they ran out of stones.
  45. - If Necessity is the Mother of Invention, then Creativity is surely the Father.

And finally, for all my friends who keep asking why I'm still a teetotaler:
- A degraded intelligence is not a precondition for having a good time.

Nikhil,
IT was good to know your thoughts about many things. I just wanted to say what one of my lecturer used to tell us. When you don't have solutions to the problem, leave them to God and He will just take care. IT has become true in my case plenty of times.

There’s always a "TRUTH" behind "JUST KIDDING".. a little "EMOTION" behind "I DON’T CARE".. a little "PAIN" behind "IT’S OKAY".. a little "I NEED You" behind "LEAVE ME ALONE".. and a lot of "WORDS" behind "THE SILENCE".. !!

Get a whole list of quotes by J.Krishnamurti on

Jiddu Krishnamurti was a philosopher, writer and international lecturer. His speeches and quotes have been featured in several thought-provoking documentaries and films.

One of his quotes:
“What we are trying in all these discussions and talks here is to see if we cannot radically bring about a transformation of the mind. Not accept things as they are… but to understand it, to go into it, to examine it, give your heart and your mind with every thing that you have to find out. A way of living differently."

We create the atmosphere around us.

If we create an atmosphere of trust, then our children grow in that atmosphere, and they will become brilliant.

But, if we create an atmosphere of negativity, distrust or dejection, they are going to reflect and bounce the same thing back to us.
