How to use hindi transliteration in Ubuntu

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04
Follow the guide here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=646207

till the "Transliteration" heading. Don't know why he's gone further,
just following the steps till there does the trick.

तो मै हिन्दी लिख सकता हू. But can't get how to put maatra's though.
